There was night
The etching series is an exploration of repetition, variation, and the dialogue between mechanical process and individual intervention. Each of the seven works originates from a single etched plate—a matrix of incised lines and tonal fields—yet every print is transformed through distinct, hand-painted interventions.
This series foregrounds the tension between uniformity and difference. The etched plate provides a structural foundation: a geometry of lines and surfaces that echoes the artist’s ongoing fascination with order, materiality, and the passage of time. Over this foundation, watercolor and pigment are applied, introducing subtle shifts in color, texture, and gesture. Each print becomes a unique object, marked by the interplay of controlled process and spontaneous mark-making.
These works invite viewers to consider the nature of the multiple—not as a static repetition, but as a field of potential variation. The series reflects a commitment to surface, to the quiet drama of material transformation, and to the poetic possibilities that arise when structure meets improvisation.
